Today’s Key Scripture
“And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
— Matthew 6:13
It is God’s will that we ask for His guidance and for His protection. And as we do, He will lead us into a life of righteousness and into that place of refuge as the psalmist David wrote, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him, I will trust” (Psalm 91:2).
Asking for guidance and protection will bring us into God’s strength against the enemy of our souls and will cause him to flee: “When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know because God is for me” (Psalm 56:9).
Our Lord promised His supernatural shelter: “You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues” (Psalm 31:20).
Jesus makes it crystal clear that as we seek to be free from temptation, we have every right to be delivered from the power, snares, and oppressions of evil and the evil one.
We move from temptation to freedom, even as He delivers us from evil and gives us eternal life.
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I ask that You guide me and direct me through all the pitfalls and perils that the enemy of my soul wants to place in my path. Keep me strong, even as I become more dependent upon You. You are my Refuge and Fortress, so help me walk in Your path with certainty and purity. And may I rest upon Your promises, day by day, to be unafraid to walk boldly in Your light, knowing that I can do all things that You want me to do as You protect me from the evil one. I pray this in the name of Jesus, amen.
