Today’s Key Scripture
“In heaven.”
— Matthew 6:9
The words “in heaven” speak of recognition. When we come to Him as Father, we recognize His authority both in heaven and on earth.
We say with the psalmist, “Let all the earth fear the Lord: Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him” (Psalm 33:8).
When we acknowledge that God’s throne is above the earth, we declare that He rules everything: “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).
Prayer is essential for effective communication with God, and effective prayer begins with understanding the awesomeness of God’s power and authority.
We demonstrate our dependence upon Him when we pray, “Our Father in heaven.” When you and I abide in and depend upon Him, we then know that we can ask anything in prayer according to His will, and it will be done, for we are promised, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:6).
A Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You for being above all. You are my all, my safety, my Rock of salvation, and my hope both now and for all eternity. Thank You that I can run to You as my strong tower when I face uncertainty and even disaster. I seek your protection and strength over me and my loved ones. I want to continually express how grateful I am for Your sovereignty over all. I release to You every concern, need, and challenge, and I trust You to direct my paths, both today and in the future. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
