Today’s Key Scripture

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

— 1 John 5:14-15

During the early 1970s, after I received Jesus Christ into my heart, I began attending services in Pittsburgh held by Kathryn Kuhlman. I remember hearing her say, “The greatest power that God has given to any individual is the power of prayer.”

But what did prayer involve?

In my own Bible study, I read verses like this: “Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18:18).

Eventually, I read these powerful words from Madame Jeanne Guyon (1648–1717):

If only we knew how much God loves us and wants to communicate with us, we would not set up impossible standards for ourselves. Nor would we become discouraged in obtaining good things from God. After all, it is His earnest intent to give us good things: “He that spared not his own Son; but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).

Prayer is powerful and all-encompassing. God invites and encourages us into His presence, releasing angels to do His bidding on the earth, and destroying the purpose of the Enemy!

A Prayer for Today

Thank You for being faithful to Your promises. I believe You will accomplish all You intend in this world and that You want to use me for Your purpose. Thank You for desiring to communicate with me. Thank You for desiring to spend time with me. Thank You for being such a loving part of my life and for allowing me to embrace You in every aspect of my being. You are my Savior. You are my Lord. You are my light in the darkest hours. You are my comfort when my soul yearns for more. And I stand confidently on all Your promises, for my life depends on You. I pray all this in Jesus’ name, amen!
