Today’s Key Scripture

“Deliver me, I pray.”

— Genesis 32:11

Jacob looked up to heaven and reminded God of His earlier promise to deal well with him: “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your family, and I will deal well with you” (Genesis 32:9).

Oh, how Jacob cried, “I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have shown Your servant; for I crossed over this Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two companies. Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he comes and attacks me and the mother with the children” (Genesis 32:10-11).

Then, in case the Lord had forgotten, Jacob prayed, “You said, ‘I will surely treat you well, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude” (Genesis 32:12).

In effect Jacob was saying, “Lord, You have been with me. You have blessed me. Please don’t desert me now!”

Have you ever felt like that? Maybe you are in this situation right now.

Stand on God’s promises as you prevail and persevere in prayer!

A Prayer for Today

Good morning, Holy Spirit! Help me stand upon Your promises. Help me dwell in Your presence, deal wisely in life, and live honorably in everything I do today. Guide me as I spend time in fellowship with You. Help me listen more intently—to hear Your voice. Direct my paths through Your presence, Your Word, prayer, and Your Spirit. Help me obey with my whole heart. Draw me closer to You today. Help me want what You desire in my life. Help me think and act in alignment with Your Word. I want more of You and less of me. I pray all this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
