Today’s Key Scripture
“Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart!”
— Psalm 119:2
Prayer has the power to fill our hearts with God’s Word.
The psalmist wrote:
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes. With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth… Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law. (Psalm 119:11-13, 18)
Only prayer will cause our eyes to be opened. Only then can we cry out:
Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients because I keep Your precepts. (Psalm 119:97-100)
Through prayer, hunger is born for the Word of God. Divine hunger for the Word of God is the result of persevering prayer.
Guard against anything that would keep you from God’s presence, for nothing else is more important than spending time with Him. Take time to get alone with God in prayer, to meditate on His Word, to adore and love Him, to be quiet and listen.
A Prayer for Today
Father, I long for You. I desire to have my life filled with Your Word. I seek to meditate on Your Word throughout the day. I treasure Your Word, and I ask for a fresh revelation of Your Word every day as I spend time studying your statutes. Open my eyes. Fill my heart with Your wisdom and insight. Most of all, I ask You to fill me with Your love and Your peace that passes all understanding. I pray all this in the name that is above all names, Jesus, amen.
