Today’s Key Scripture
“Walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
— Colossians 1:10
As God’s people, we are commanded to be filled with the knowledge of God, for it is that knowledge of Him, His person, and His heart that must fill our being. And once His knowledge is in us, the glorious result will be a life of effective prayer.
Prayer can be as easy as breathing. It can be as natural to pray as it is to live. The knowledge of God is the key to that kind of life. And once His knowledge fills us, His Word will empower us to pray effectively. And as we come to His throne room, we come filled with His faith and His confidence:
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 John 5:14-15)
God desires fellowship with us. He doesn’t just want words and formulas. He longs to answer that prayer that comes from our heart. You see, prayer is our heart listening to and talking to the Lord.
Listening to the Lord is the key to power in prayer.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, with an open heart I want to hear You in spirit and truth. I seek to dwell in Your presence. I deserve nothing in and of myself, yet You continually shower me with unmerited grace and undeserved favor, even as You heal my broken heart and calm my fears. I thank You for Your promise to draw near to me. What a comfort that is to me! And as I go through this day, help me to point others to You. Help me to set all my affection upon You. And may I reflect Your light in all my actions. I pray this in the name of Jesus, amen.
