Today’s Key Scripture

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

— John 15:7

In order to understand God’s anointing for your life, it is beneficial to learn from biblical examples.

David, for example, had three anointings. The first took place when Samuel went to see David’s father, Jesse and anointed David. David’s first anointing did not change his duties; he continued toiling in the fields. Then he was called on occasion to play the harp for Saul. David’s second anointing came following the conflict with the house of Saul after King Saul’s death. Only after the third anointing did David receive dominion and authority over all of Israel. In order to reach that level of dominion and authority that God intends for our life, we must receive the fullness of God’s anointing for ourselves. I call it the kingly anointing.

In much the same way, the apostles experienced three anointings. The anointing first came when Jesus breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). Then the second anointing came upon them when the Holy Spirit fell on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2). Finally, the third anointing came as “they spoke the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:31).

A greater anointing will come upon you as you continue to abide in the Lord. The presence of the Lord is with you, and likewise, the anointing of the Lord is within.

A Prayer for Today

Father God, thank You for all the wonderful things You have done in my life. I am filled with gratitude that You continue doing so many things that I never could have imagined on my own. I honor You. I lift up Your holy name. Help me to know that You desire the miraculous in my life more than I can. You want to intervene in all my challenges, even when it seems as if the barriers are taller than my faith for them to be moved. Help me remember that it is not by might, nor by power, but by Your Holy Spirit. Take charge of my life. Help me step into the miraculous breakthroughs that You have planned for me today—in my spiritual walk, my relationships, my career, and even in my finances. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
