Today’s Key Scripture

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

— 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

God wants to fellowship with us, to be part of every decision, and to guide our every move. So no matter how small the issue, if it concerns you, share it with God, and then listen for His answer.

Sometimes His answers aren’t exactly as we expect.

I heard a testimony recently of a carload of Bible college students who were headed home for Christmas vacation. They prayed for protection, safe travels, and no mechanical problems; yet not long afterward, they experienced car problems. The roadside repair was minimal, only taking a few moments. Still, they were dismayed at the delay.

Then as they continued on their way, someone in the car suggested that they do what the Bible says—to rejoice and pray—even when things don’t go as planned.

No sooner had they finished praying when they came around a corner and saw a multicar accident. Quick calculations caused them to realize that the moments of repair alongside the highway had likely saved their lives.

Today, as you go through your day, praying without ceasing, listen for God’s directions for both large and small things, and rejoice for His answers, both monumental and seemingly mundane. He cares.

A Prayer for Today

God, help me keep my focus on You, above all. Direct my heart and mind toward You. Thank You for Your timely reminder that You are in control, both in seasons of victory and during times of seeming defeat. In all things, You are with me. You never leave me nor forsake me. Anoint me for Your purpose and glory. Give me confidence to do Your works, knowing that whatever I do I seek to do everything in Your name and authority Thank You for your daily powerful presence in my life. I’m so grateful I can be assured that Your heart is toward me, Your eyes are over me, and Your ears are open to my prayers. In Jesus’ name, amen.
