Today’s Key Scripture

“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

— Acts 2:38-39

All believers need the Holy Spirit’s fresh anointing, and one of the most exciting, life-changing promises in the Bible is that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is available to each of us.

In Acts 2, the apostle Peter clearly states that when we receive Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit is ours. To use today’s terminology, this precious gift is part of the “total package.” The Holy Spirit is included in the believer’s inheritance.

Since “the promise is to you and to your children,” every believer, worldwide, must understand that the power of God not only belongs to us but also to our children.

And the promise of the Holy Spirit is for “all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Every believer is included!

But what does the gift of the Holy Spirit have to do our greatest needs? In a word, everything! First and foremost, being baptized with the Holy Spirit means spending time in God’s presence. It does not mean coming to Him with a long list of needs.

It is time to seek the Gift, and not just the gifts He desires to pour out upon you today.

A Prayer for Today

Dear Lord, this morning I ask that You give me strength today, to be strong for You in a world filled with challenges. Anoint me with Your Holy Spirit. Carry me when I am weak. Rescue me when I am tempted. When I struggle, stay with me, for I need Your guidance and strength. Without You, I am nothing. With You, I am victorious. You are worthy of all my praise and worship. I seek the gift of the Holy Spirit, not just the gifts that You have promised to pour out on me. I rest in You, and I trust You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
