Today’s Key Scripture

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me this way, just as the Scripture says.”

— John 7:38, msg

Andrew Murray, a great revivalist of the late 1800s and early 1900s, once stated, “At the moment of the new birth the Holy Spirit comes in and resides, yet His power is absent. It is not yet upon that life ’till that life surrenders to the One who is already there.”

He comes in and dwells within our heart at the new birth, but it is our choice to surrender to the indwelling Spirit by giving Him our all—spirit, soul, and body. When we surrender to the indwelling Spirit, He empowers us.

Andrew Murray describes this in a beautiful picture as he speaks about a fountain coming from within us and literally baptizing us within.

Even science teaches us how permanent change cannot happen until the change takes place from the nucleus outward.

Imagine a fountain literally coming out of your innermost being! You may not have been aware that it was even there until it comes out of you. The next thing you know, it surrounds you, immerses you, and fills you to overflowing as you spend time in His presence.

It all begins when you get thirsty and hungry enough to seek Him with everything within you, for He promises, “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed” (Jeremiah 29:13-14, msg).

A Prayer for Today

Precious Lord Jesus, I am hungry for more of You. You are my hope. Your Word tells me to hold fast to the confession of my hope without wavering because You are faithful. Lord, I am holding fast, refusing to waver. I’m trusting in Your promises. Fill me with Your fullness and help me follow You today in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
