Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:

So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

—Psalm 80:18, KJV

I once heard a powerful statement which often comes to mind. When coming to God in prayer, “It’s better to have a heart without words than words with no heart.”

When I get alone with God and am ready to pray, I often say, “Father, Your Word says You will quicken me, then I can call upon You. Lord, I am waiting for Your quickening.”

Then I remain quiet until I feel the presence of God’s Spirit.

“How long do you wait? I’ve been asked. “It doesn’t matter,” I tell questioners. “If you’re in a hurry, He is not likely to arrive.”

Andrew Murray, a great man of God, said that before he prayed he often said, “Lord, melt my cold heart; break my hard heart, and prepare it for Your touch.”

That is what all believers desperately need to be more effective prayer warriors—a heart that is melted, broken, and prepared for God to use in a mighty way!

Remember, when you stop doing all the talking and start listening, our Lord will speak.

Spend time with God in close communion, quickened by Him, and your life will be changed forever!

A Prayer for Today:

Father God, help me to be patient in Your presence. Thank You for all the wonderful things You have done in my life, even when I sometimes grow impatient while waiting for Your answers. Quicken me. Let Your words give me understanding of the need for listening. Lead me to the way of righteousness, that I may understand You better. Help me to know that You desire the miraculous in my life more than I can begin to imagine. Take charge of my life. Help me to step into the breakthroughs that You have planned for me today—in my spiritual walk, my relationships, my career, and even in my finances. I pray all this in the Name of Jesus, Amen!
