Today’s Key Scripture

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

— John 10:27

There are many voices clamoring for our attention. These voices seek to guide, distract, direct, and even destruct. It is important to understand those voices and ultimately learn to discern God’s true voice. Consider these voices:

  • The most obvious voice that wants to direct our lives is our own. The “flesh” is a powerful voice (Romans 8:5). The mind tells us what to think. The will tells us what we want. The emotions tell us what to feel. Desires are ever-present. The flesh is unreliable, at best.
  • Another type of voice that seeks to direct us is the voice of people all around us. God does speak through others, but there are many other voices that are destructive.
  • The third type of voice you will hear early, often, and long is the voice of the enemy of your soul, the devil (1 Peter 5:8).
  • Hearing God’s voice, thankfully, is assured for each of us who call upon His name.

God seeks to direct our path through His presence, His Word, prayer, His Spirit, and even sometimes through circumstances. To hear His voice, however, we must learn to go beyond the surface and dive deeper where the Spirit of God lives within.

A Prayer for Today

Good Morning, Holy Spirit! Help me spend time in fellowship with You. Help me listen more intently—to hear Your voice. Direct my paths through Your presence, Your Word, prayer, and Your Spirit. Help me obey with my whole heart. Draw me closer to You today. Help me want what You desire in my life. Help me think and act in alignment with Your Word. Help me dwell in Your presence, deal wisely in life, and live honorably in everything I do today. I want more of You and less of me. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
