Today’s Key Scripture

“Pray consistently and never quit.”

— Luke 18:1, MSG

George Müller, a nineteenth-century man of faith in God and miracles, is still recognized as one of the greatest men of prayer in the history of the church. By faith and intercession alone, he dedicated his life to housing and feeding thousands of homeless children in England, sharing his financial needs with no one but God.

Yet many of his most urgent prayers seemed to go unanswered. Müller prayed and interceded passionately during most of his life for the conversion of a friend.

When asked why he had prayed so long with no apparent results, Müller replied, “The great point is never to give up until the answer comes. I have been praying for 63 years and eight months for one man’s conversion. He is not converted yet, but he will be! How can it be otherwise? There is the unchanging promise of Jehovah, and on that I rest.”

Müller’s prayers were eventually answered. No sooner had this giant of the faith passed from this life into the next, even before the funeral service, than his friend received Jesus Christ into his heart.

What have you prayed for that seems to go unanswered? “Pray consistently and never quit.” Hold on to God’s unchanging promises.

A Prayer for Today

Father God, thank You for all the wonderful things You have done in my life, even when I sometimes grow weak while waiting for Your answers. Let Your words give me understanding of the need for persistence in prayer. Lead me to the way of righteousness, that I may understand You better. Strengthen me to persevere on the right course, knowing that though I will stumble and fall, Help me to know that You desire the miraculous in my life more than I can begin to imagine. You want to intervene in all my challenges, even when it seems as if the barriers are taller than my faith for them to be moved. Take charge of my life. Help me step into the breakthroughs that You have planned for me today—in my spiritual walk, my relationships, my career, and even in my finances. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
