Key Scripture

“They prayed and said, ‘You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen.’”

— Acts 1:24

Amazing things happen when people join in agreement with God and fellow believers. There are many benefits you can expect when you pray in one accord. I want to share 10 of these glorious results in the coming devotionals, beginning with this: Agreement helps us make the right decisions.

After Jesus ascended to heaven in a cloud, His followers returned from the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem. The disciples and others gathered together where they “continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers” (Acts 1:14).

The Bible records that many powerful things took place as a result of their unity, including the power to make the right decisions. It was during that gathering that they asked God for direction in replacing Judas as an apostle and a witness of Christ. In deciding between two men, they prayed. That time of agreement led to the appointment of Matthias.

The Word says, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).

When important decisions must be made, seek the guidance of people who have spiritual integrity and wisdom, then move into an agreement with them.

A Prayer for Today

God of all mercy, forgiveness, and lovingkindness, I need You in every part of my life, including my decisions. I choose today to come to You, to seek intimacy with You, to confide in You as my Friend, and to persist in Your presence. I willingly share my heart, my desires, and even my pain with You. I also seek the power of agreement by coming into unity with seasoned believers to whom I am led. May I live my life so in tuned with You, asking for Your guidance every day, to the point that my choices reflect You. Help me walk in joy, sharing Your love to others everywhere I go. Help me speak hope, health, and peace to everyone I meet and work with. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
