Today’s Key Scripture

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

— James 4:8

I’ve referred to this “draw near” verse several times this month—for good reason.

Have you ever wanted to get to know someone, yet you held back because you weren’t sure if the other person would be friendly, standoffish, or actually reject you?

Many people feel that way about God Almighty. They’ve never gotten close to Him because they feel He is so imposing, so distant, so impossible to reach that it is futile to “draw near” to Him.

You don’t have to fear rejection. God Himself provided His Son as the bridge between His perfection and your sin: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, KJV).

Jesus Christ said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37). That same Jesus seeks fellowship with you: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).

Draw close to God. He longs to be with you. He loves you beyond the description of human words. He’s only a prayer away.

A Prayer for Today

Thank You, Lord, for desiring to spend time with me. Thank You for encouraging me to draw near to You. Thank You for being such a loving part of my life and for allowing me to embrace You in every aspect of my being. You are my Savior. You are my Lord. You are the Light of the world, especially in the darkest hours. You are my comfort when my soul yearns for more. And I stand confidently on all Your promises, for my life depends on You. I pray all this in Jesus’ name, amen.
