Today’s Key Scripture

“Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.”

— Psalm 119:18

Effective prayer and intimate communication bring many things, including these:

  • A revelation of self. This allows us to see ourselves in the light of who God is. This revelation of self is always followed by a revelation of God and His mercy.
  • A cleansing. As we confess our sins, He washes and purifies us and allows us to come boldly to the throne of grace with a pure heart.
  • A revelation of the Word of God. God’s Word comes alive inside us and allows Him to lead, direct, and illuminate our path.

With these benefits (and many more) available, it would seem that believers would all see the overwhelming need to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Dr. Billy Graham has said this:

The Christian should have an appetite for prayer. He should want to pray. One does not have to force food upon a healthy child. Exercise, good circulation, health, and labor demand food for sustenance. So it is with those who are spiritually healthy. They have an appetite for the Word of God and for prayer.

Prayer and communion show our dependence on Almighty God. It brings us into fellowship with Him. It avails us to His power and His wisdom.

May believers today have a voracious appetite for prayer!

A Prayer for Today

Thank You, dear heavenly Father, for opening my eyes to You. I’m so hungry for You. I desire You above all. I’m so grateful that You are working on my behalf, even when I don’t see what is taking place spiritually. As I spend intimate time with You, I ask that You increase my passion for spending even more time with You. Help me cherish communion with You, no matter what is going on in my life. Help me stay where You want me to be and depend upon Your promises. Thank You for promising that if I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
