Today’s Key Scripture

“You will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.”

— Acts 22:15

Like so many people, the persecutor, then named Saul, was sincere, but sincerely and horribly wrong. He had no use for Jesus Christ or His followers. Although he took his opposition of Christ to an extreme, he was not unlike many of us in the days before we met the Master.

And meet the Master he did!

Suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” So I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’… So I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Arise and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all things which are appointed for you to do.’ (Acts 22:6-8, 10)

He had met the resurrected Christ, and from a changed recognition came a changed commission. Jesus said, “The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard” (Acts 22:14-15).

A Prayer for Today

Father in heaven, change my commission to reflect Your Word and Your will. I magnify Your name, because You never fail! Help me to learn more about You and Your nature, dear Lord. Order my life as You desire. Sanctify me through Your Word. Govern me—spirit, soul, and body—according to Your plan, not mine. May my thoughts, words, and action focus more and more upon You. I pray today that You will be glorified through my thoughts, words, and deeds. I pray this in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
