Today’s Key Scripture

“Having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.”

— Acts 13:3

Since the moment the Holy Spirit called me to preach His Word, I have never had one moment of doubt concerning my calling. It was not an occupation chosen by trial and error, nor was it a decision I made for myself. God directed and I said yes.

Throughout the book of Acts we meet people who were called by God for a specific task. During a service at a church at Antioch, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them” (Acts 13:2).

The church fasted, prayed, and laid their hands on them before sending the evangelists away. Scripture tells us they were sent forth by the Holy Spirit to the island of Cyprus (Acts 13:4).

There is only one way to know God’s direction and leadership for your life. Continue to seek the Holy Spirit until He makes your calling sure.

Just remember, the Holy Spirit speaks through the Scriptures and through godly people, as well as directly to your heart. As you spend time in His presence, you will learn to listen to His voice, regardless of how He speaks to you.

A Prayer for Today

Into Your hands, O Lord, I commit myself this day. I ask You to make Your calling sure in my life. Help me tarry in Your presence. My desire is to become closer to You every day. As my relationship with You deepens, help me to walk in Your ways as I am transformed new every day. Please guide me in Your path of righteousness, according to Your will and Your glory. Help me become more like Christ, bringing light and hope to a world too often filled with darkness and hopelessness. I pray this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
