Today’s Key Scripture

“Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.”

— Acts 12:5

When the believers heard that Peter was in prison, they learned what it meant to pray constantly without ceasing. This continual prayer was offered until the answer came for Peter and he was delivered from Herod’s prison by an angel. The chains fell off and he walked out of the prison.

In fact, God’s divine intervention on Peter’s behalf was so miraculous and out of the ordinary that Peter wasn’t even sure it was actually happening. He thought he was having a vision. Just moments before his liberation, Peter had been sleeping, chained between two soldiers. Suddenly a bright light appeared in the prison, and an angel of the Lord woke him and said, “Arise quickly!” (Acts 12:7). And with that, Peter’s chains fell off! Not until he was outside the prison, walking on the streets, did Peter realize what had really happened!

The believers in the book of Acts were able to pray without ceasing for Peter only because of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The psalmist declared, “Revive us, and we will call upon Your name” (Psalm 80:18). Ask the Holy Spirit to revive and quicken you daily, and He will do it.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, change my prayer life. Grant that I may be more attuned to Your Word and Your will. I ask that You guide me and direct me through all the pitfalls and perils that the enemy of my soul wants to place in my path. Keep me strong, even as I become more dependent upon You. Help me to walk in Your path with certainty and purity. And may I rest upon Your promises, day by day, to be unafraid to walk boldly in Your light, knowing that I can do all things that You want me to do. I pray this in the name of Jesus, amen.
