Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:

Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

—Galatians 4:6-7

“Abba” is an Aramaic term that small children often use in addressing their father, much like “Daddy” or “Papa.” The term is polite and intimate, even tender.

I will never, ever lose my appreciation for the relationship that the Holy Spirit gives me with the Father because of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus and the miracle that took place the supernatural work that the Holy Spirit performed in my heart.

When I received Jesus Christ into my heart, one of the most exciting changes in my life was the tremendous intimacy with and deep affection with my heavenly Father.

Each day, as I have spent time in His presence, what a process of discovery it has been to realize that I’m no longer a slave to sin and alienated from the Father. I’m not in the Father’s family as a stepchild—emotionally distant and never really accepted. I’ve been adopted as a full-fledged son and joint-heir, and so I can cry out, “Abba, Father!”

All of these benefits are yours, too, through the precious Holy Spirit. And isn’t it wonderful to realize that each new day is an opportunity to become more intimate with Abba, Father?

A Prayer for Today:

Lord, may nothing separate me from You and Your many benefits today. Teach me how to choose only Your way today. Help me so each step leads me deeper and deeper into Your presence. Help me to keep my heart pure. And keep me from being distracted by my own desires, my own wants, and my ideas on how things should turn out. Instead, help me to embrace whatever comes my way today, knowing that You know me best and want the very best for me. I pray this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!
