Discover the Greatest Insurance

“The God we serve is not controlled by conditions. The God we serve controls the conditions! And His supernatural economic system is the best insurance you and your loved ones will ever have!”

As families and individuals, we know that if we continue to live on borrowed money, we eventually run out of ways to fund even the most basic needs of life.

Stop-gap measures quit working. Stop-gap measures quit working. Pressures mount. Finally, no matter how much we ignore the facts, there comes a time when we are forced to face true economic reality.

For too many people, the picture is grim at best. Companies and organizations are also facing the same reality. Some of the biggest brands and once-successful corporations are dealing with unthinkable choices today.

And, as you have read in recent letters, as a worldwide ministry we constantly have to evaluate where we are financially and what we must cut or expand in order to make ends meet with the funds we receive from God’s people. It’s not an easy task, especially since many of our crusades, telecasts, and mission outreaches have to be planned and budgeted months or even years in advance. But it’s something we must do in order to survive.

  • Our gross national product (GNP) is currently $18.9 trillion per year, yet our debt is $21.9 trillion. It’s the largest in the world by far! Latest forecasts project the gross federal debt to increase from $21.9 trillion (U.S.) in 2018 to $33.85 trillion in 2028.
  • As a result, to survive the debt, we are having to borrow a staggering amount of funds—trillions of dollars.
  • Currently, the fastest-growing major government expense, the cost of interest on all we’ve borrowed, is on track to hit $390 billion this year.
  • Today’s U.S. unfunded liabilities have skyrocketed to $210 trillion! (Unfunded liabilities include the amount of money the U.S. government knows it does not have to fully fund Medicare, the Medicare Prescription Drug Program, and Social Security programs, as well as military and civil service pensions. All these are calculated on current tax and funding figures, as well as future U.S. population shifts.)

Can you wrap your mind around how much money that is? It is staggering to just think in terms of billions and trillions. We know that a trillion is $1,000,000,000,000—that’s a lot of zeroes!

A stack of one trillion one-dollar bills would reach 68,000 miles in space.

If you spent $1 million a day from the birth of our Lord Jesus until now, you would only have spent about three-quarters of a trillion.

And those trillions of dollars of debt are truly changing everything, including the future of our country.

Historic Uncertainty and Vulnerability

What a difference a few years make. When I immigrated to the United States in 1979, this country was a massive economic force. Back then, the idea of this nation facing default or bankruptcy was utterly unthinkable. Yet, here we are!

Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying. I love this country dearly. It’s still the strongest economy in the world and the greatest nation on earth, even with the challenges we face.

In the past, Americans have been able to face any problem, and we have overcome so much. Our country is filled with magnificent natural resources. God has blessed our nation abundantly!

Yet today, more than ever, we are vulnerable. We are facing struggles that would have been inconceivable just a few years ago. And, even now, too many people seem to be totally unaware of what’s happening.

In simple terms, our country is spending more than we take in. It is unsustainable. Borrowing and printing money are only temporary solutions.

The world’s greatest civilizations and nations have been upended by excessive government spending and taxing and moral disregard for God’s principles—so if the unthinkable were to occur, the United States certainly wouldn’t be the first.

And as unthinkable as it may seem, America, despite the latest budget agreement, is well on its way to fiscal and, perhaps, democratic collapse…unless we begin to pray and to follow the scriptural imperatives the Word of God sets forth for a great nation.

We simply cannot spend more than we earn. We cannot run up the largest credit card bill in human history and expect no consequences. When we follow the world’s economy, which includes living under the suffocating pressure of debt, we must accept the consequences of that economy.

But God is calling us to live in a covenant relationship with Him, which includes living under His economy, not man’s.

When we begin living under the principles of God’s economy, which includes living within our means and budgeting our resources to include giving toward the Gospel, we put ourselves in line to reap the supernatural resources God has promised.

Bags with Holes

The problem is, our nation and many other countries around the globe have been living on growing mountains of debt, thinking all the while that they were living on firm foundations. Nothing could have been further from the truth! “Profit,” when it is imaginary, is temporal and can’t be counted on, even in a country like the United States. No longer living under a false sense of security, we are now seeing the results splashed in every newspaper and 24-hour news broadcast.

There is an Old Testament verse that graphically describes the situation in which we find ourselves:

Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. (Haggai 1:6)

A bag with holes—what a powerful image—and a fitting one of what we are facing, not just here in America but around the world. So many countries (and individuals within those countries) have been trusting wealth to bags with holes.

What appeared to be real proved to be imaginary, even phony. Now we are seeing people, companies, and even nations in peril, even though they may have felt that their financial situations and investments were sound and secure, but the economic systems of the world have proven to be shaky, extremely insecure, and even dishonest.

God’s economic system is as different from the world’s structures as night and day. If you are not giving to the work of God, you are simply putting your money and investments in a bag with holes!

If you are giving faithfully to His work and investing in His kingdom, you have the greatest insurance you can have that God will protect you during perilous times—and not just you, but your family as well.

This protection includes much more than finances. From many examples throughout the Scriptures, that protection includes health and every aspect of life.

Covenant Protection

The key to walking in financial victory in these days and in the future is our covenant relationship with God! Though the world struggles, God’s people who walk in covenant will have supernatural provision. He has a covenant with you that will never be broken: “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips” (Psalm 89:34).

Take comfort knowing that, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Because you are a covenant person, God will take care of you, even in times of famine and difficulty.

While the world struggles, you will rejoice, for the God you serve has given this promise:

In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword. Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh. At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth. (Job 5:20-22)

That scripture clearly states that the Lord will so take care of you that you will laugh in the face of destruction and famine because you belong to God. Those things may affect the world, but they will not affect you because you are “a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

You are in this world, but you don’t belong to it, nor are you run by it! The world’s economy will continue to crumble, but your position as a believer is one of strength and power.

Filled to Satisfaction

The Bible teaches that “the LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied” (Psalm 37:18-19). We will be satisfied! The Hebrew translation for this word is “filled to satisfaction.”

Our inheritance is forever! And our covenant with the Lord is meant to do us good: “I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me” (Jeremiah 32:40). If we look to God and His Word, we will be victorious and never lack, but if we look to the world’s economic systems we will lose:

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. (Jeremiah 17:5-6)

This passage tells us what happens to the man who trusts in man and depends on the arm of flesh. Do not trust in this arm of flesh! If you do, there will be lack in your life.

Trust only in the Lord, and as you do, you will be blessed:

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

God tells us that He will give us wealth to establish His covenant: “Thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:18).

Don’t look for a formula from the world’s systems. Just walk in a covenant relationship with the Lord, for “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

The Word of God assures us that “the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” (Proverbs 13:22), and “in the house of the righteous is much treasure” (Proverbs 15:6).

It’s Never Too Late

And here’s the best news: If you haven’t been as faithful as you should be in your investments in the Kingdom, it is never too late. Just like chipping away at debt or beginning a savings plan for your family’s economy, giving to the Lord’s work requires planning and action. It should be a part of your budget as a covenant believer.

We can find joy in this promise from God: “I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten” (Joel 2:25). But God requires obedience.

Righteousness puts you in line to prosper, as God’s Word tells us, “A faithful man shall abound with blessings” (Proverbs 28:20). It is time to abound in God’s blessings!
