Today’s Key Scripture

“Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

— Ephesians 5:14, KJV

It is God’s desire that you have a dynamic prayer life, for without it you cannot be spiritually alive.

In Ephesians 5:14, Paul tells us that a sleeping saint is like a dead sinner. There is no difference. It is the result of prayerlessness.

Today the Lord continues to say, Arise! It’s time to pray!

Here’s what God told Israel: “Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean Shall no longer come to you. Shake yourself from the dust, arise” (Isaiah 52:1-2).

When you and I pray, incredible things happen:

  • Prayer builds strength, not weakness.
  • Prayer clothes us in beauty.
  • Prayer separates us from the world.

Believers are called to be awake and alert, vigilant watchmen in the kingdom. Jesus made that clear when He told us to “watch and pray” (Matthew 26:41).

The prophet Isaiah said, “Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you” (Isaiah 60:1).

Oh, what God has planned for those who will rise up and say, “Lord, I am ready. You can rely on me!”

A Prayer for Today

Precious Lord, I want to awaken every day, ready for Your work. I come to You with a humble, thankful heart for being patient with me when I am not alert. I seek to be used by You to touch and impact those around me. Anoint me for Your service today so I can show people with my life that there is hope for the hopeless and blessings untold that are available to those who turn to You—no matter what happened in the past. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
