Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:
Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” So Philip ran to him.
—Acts 8:29-30
God is concerned with timing and with tact. He wants us to do things at the right time and in the right way.
When the perfect moment came to witness to an Ethiopian, the apostle Philip ran!
Philip knew the voice of God so well that when the Spirit said, “Now,” Philip responded instantly and took off. He didn’t want to miss the opportunity.
During Paul’s journeys, he did not witness to people until they were ready for it. Once, when he was on a ship headed for Rome, a violent storm erupted. If he had witnessed to the unbelievers when there was no tempest in their life, they probably would have turned a deaf ear. But Paul had the right words. More than that, he was sensitive to discern the right time. He spoke of “the angel of God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying, ‘Do not be afraid” (Acts 27:23, 24). God promised to protect all who sailed with him.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you discernment; then follow His guidance. He will always lead you perfectly.
A Prayer for Today:
Good morning, Holy Spirit! Grant me greater discernment, even as I ask you to help me live according to Your purpose. Help me keep my eyes on You and all that You did for me at Calvary. Guide my feet in the path of peace and joy. Grant me intimate fellowship with You, even as You reveal Your purpose for my life. Help me to remember that Your path is always best and that Your way is to do immeasurably more than all I can ask or imagine. I pray this in the Name above all names, Amen!
