12 Ways to Keep Your Love Alive

By Dr. Gary Smalley

1. Praise is such a great gift, and it's so easy to give. So look at the things that make your spouse and others unique and develop the habit of praising them for those special things.

2. Every painful trial is like an oyster, and there is a precious pearl-a personal benefit-in every one; every single one.

3. Don't go it alone. Welcome fresh insights of other perspectives-from extended family, friends, good marriage books, or a qualified marriage counselor.

4. In a mutually satisfying relationship, both people's needs are expressed, and they have the flexibility to give and take.

Being a Wife of Uncompromising Truth

By John & Diana Hagee

If there is a single quality that has major impact on the building up, as well as tearing down, of marriage, it is honesty. This is a many-sided value that will make or break a marriage.

Honesty is a character strength that women say they want in their husbands, but this strength can be the most frustrating quality their husbands possess. Honesty must be carefully defined – especially from God’s point of view.

“Being honest” should never be confused with being brutal and uncompassionate. An honest person does not compromise his or her values by tempering honesty with qualities of care, consideration, and tactfulness. Remember that husbands are to love their wives just as God loves the church. God never abuses.

There isn’t a woman alive who hasn’t’ asked her husband, “Does my hair look all right?” or “Does this dress look OK for tonight?”

“For Your Marriage” Initiative

Religion News Service, San Bernardino, CA - Strong support for the Catholic Church’s “For Your Marriage” initiative was announced today by the National Secretariat of Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

“It is our belief that vibrant, long lasting and dedicated marriages can and do exist and that married couples are seeking to make their good marriages, great marriages.  The focus of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops on supporting and helping to foster good marriage principles is an effort that we all need to get behind and encourage,” said Tony and Cathy Witzak and Fr. Emile Frishe, the WWME National Secretariat Ecclesial Team.

The new USCCB marriage initiative, which has been operating for six months, has many facets with one of the key elements being its www.foryourmarriage.org website.  The website contains much useful information and tips, stories and ideas to keep marriages alive and healthy. There has also been a strong emphasis on public service announcements and other related programs.

“It is our hope and dream that through this effort, along with Worldwide Marriage Encounter’s focus on supporting marriages, that married couples will see the beauty in their relationships and let others observe that happy, healthy marriages are flourishing throughout the United States,” the national secretariat team said.
